Wow! We have a lot to cover in this newsletter, as it encompasses the last three months, because NSSLHA has been up to some exciting things! We have had many entertaining all-chapter events, some excellent fundraising opportunities, and we have been making moves on new apparel (to come)!!!

Let’s take a look at the past couple of months!:

January/February

Bowling at the Annex

NSSLHA had our first all-chapter meeting at Marquette University’s Union Sports Annex where we shared lots of laughs, strikes, and mozzarella sticks! How fun! We hope you will join us for our next chapter meeting.

March Madness

World Hearing Day

Each year the World Health Organization holds a World Hearing Day on March 3rd to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote proper hearing care worldwide. This year’s theme was: To hear for life, listen with care!

NSSLHA set up a table in the AMU to spread awareness for World Hearing Day 2022 and we passed out candy, free ear plugs, and hearing facts!

World Down Syndrome Day

March 21st we helped DSAW celebrated World Down Syndrome Day. We participated in their celebration and joined with people around the globe to celebrate our friends who have 3 copies of the 21st chromosome!

We fundraised for DSAW on our social media accounts and made a fundraising bingo board to help them support World Down Syndrome Day!

Rec Center Spin Class All-Chapter Meeting

At our most recent all-chapter meeting NSSLHA met up at the Rec Center and got our hearts racing with a spin class! Shoutout to Jenna for an awesome class and hard-earned sweat session!

Upcoming April

See what NSSLHA has planned for next month!

  • Week of 4/4 All-Chapter Meeting
  • Week of 4/18 Last All-Chapter Meeting
  • 4/18 No Class — Easter Monday
  • 4/29 @ 5–7 Student-Faculty Dinner

Congratulations are in Order!

Dr. Emily Patterson and husband welcome third child on 2/26 — Henry Walker Patterson

We are so happy for you and your family. Enjoy this time at home with your husband, daughters Claire and Violet, and now your new baby Henry Walker Patterson!:)

Dr. Jenya Iuzzini-Seigel awarded $1.1 million grant to investigate treatments for Childhood Apraxia of Speech

Assistant professor of speech pathology and audiology in Marquette University’s College of Health Sciences, has been awarded a $1,156,000 grant from the Once Upon a Time Foundation for a randomized control trial that compares different treatment delivery schedules for children with childhood apraxia of speech.

CAS is a neurological speech disorder in which a child has difficulty planning and programming speech movements. This often results in highly unintelligible speech, even though the child knows what they want to say. Children with CAS will often require years of intense targeted treatment to improve the clarity and naturalness of their speech.

Way to make us proud and keep up your amazing work!
