NSSLHA NEWS — SPPA Stars
Have you heard the news? Six of our faculty members from the SPPA department have won excellent awards and grants for their hard work here on campus! Checkout the list below to see our SPPA Stars:
- Amy Delaney, Ph.D. was notified that her manuscript entitled “Texture Consumption Patterns of 8 to 12-month-old Infants: A Reflection of Typical Feeding Development” was accepted in the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology (July 2021)
- Sarah Grace Dalton, Ph.D. is the mentor for two Marquette Speech-Language Pathology Masters Students who were awarded ASHA SPARC Awards to research discourse analysis in individuals with primary progressive aphasia and discourse analysis in bilingual individuals with aphasia (July 2021)
- Jen Eggert, M.S. was named President-Elect of the Wisconsin Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Association (WSHA) Executive Board (July 2021)
- Jenya Iuzzini-Seigel, Ph.D. received pilot award funding from the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center (AHPRC) for her study entitled “Motor Training to Improve Cognitive-Linguistic and Motor Learning Function in Typically-Developing Children” (September 2021)
- Sarah Grace Dalton, Ph.D. received pilot award funding from the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center (AHPRC) for her study entitled “Effects of Ischemic Conditioning on Language, Cognitive, and Motor Outcomes in Persons with Chronic Aphasia” (September 2021)
- Emily Patterson, Au.D., Sarah Grace Dalton, Ph.D., and Heidi Ruedinger, M.S. collaborated with Dr. William Cullinan, Professor and Dean of the College of Health Sciences, in a Beyond MU Presentation entitled “The Science that Heals — Successful Aging Concerning Communication and Cognition” (September 2021)

Meet Dani Schneider
Meet Miss Schneider! She is new to our Speech Pathology and Audiology department here at Marquette, so we thought we would conduct a little Q&A to help get to know her better and welcome her into our program!
- What is your job title here at Marquette?
Administrative Assistant for the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology - What is your favorite thing about your job?
Watching the faculty and students make a positive impact on their clients and improve their livelihood. My degree is in business, and therefore I was not previously exposed to the importance of client care that is seen in healthcare settings. In the short time that I have worked at Marquette University, I have heard stories from clients and/or their guardians describing the immense impact that our services have. Although I am not a Speech-Language Pathologist nor an Audiologist, it is incredibly moving to hear the stories of how the MU Speech and Hearing Clinic has changed lives for the better! - What is your favorite thing about Marquette in general?
The People. Whether it be the faculty, students, or clients, I enjoy the positive interactions that I experience on a daily basis. I have met so many kind and passionate individuals who motivate me to be the best I can be. This past Summer, the Department organized the very first TIM’s (The Independence Movement) Camp to support adolescents with Down Syndrome as they move toward independence through vocational and social accomplishments. I was very involved behind the scenes with this Camp in terms of coordinating and ordering supplies. On the very last day of Camp, I was able to see TIM’s Camp in action. The joy that I saw on the Camper’s faces made me very emotional. They were having so much fun, meeting new friends, and receiving services that were improving their lives. Hearing the Camper’s express how excited they are to come back for TIM’s Camp next Summer made all the work that I did feel so worthwhile. Thank you again to Bridget Valla, Katie Czelatdko, and all of the students for your efforts — this was so impactful, and I can’t wait for TIM’s Camp Summer 2022! - Where are you from?
I was originally born in Chicago but spent most of my life living in a small town in northern Illinois. I lived less than 10 minutes from the Wisconsin/Illinois border; so despite being from Illinois, I have always been immersed in all things Wisconsin! - Please tell us one fun fact about yourself!
I recently got engaged to my college sweetheart, and we are getting married in Fall of 2022. We are avid Packers fans and will be hosting our reception at Lambeau Field!
